Lenovo Center Unveils New Centerhung LED Display System

(RALEIGH, NC) – Gale Force Sports & Entertainment, in association with the Centennial Authority, today announced that construction of a 4,000-square-foot centerhung LED display system at Lenovo Center has been completed. The new display will be operational during tonight’s Carolina Hurricanes’ preseason game. The system will serve as a key feature during Carolina Hurricanes hockey games, NC State University men’s basketball games and other special events at Lenovo Center.

“The impressive high-resolution centerhung video board is nearly three times larger than the previous system,” said Lenovo Center and Hurricanes President Don Waddell. “The new board is one of several recent enhancements provided by the Centennial Authority, which allow us to produce a more dynamic in-arena presentation.”

The $4.2 million system was designed by Daktronics of Brookings, SD, and includes a main display as well as two additional displays mounted to the underbelly. It features curved corners to provide a 360-degree continuous presentation of digital content, and with variable content zoning abilities, can feature one large image or multiple zones that present unique display opportunities for sponsorship, live video and in-game statistics.

Among the largest in the NHL, the main display measures approximately 25 feet high by 50 feet wide on each side and each end measures 25 feet high by 32 feet wide. The additional displays on the underbelly measure approximately 10 feet high by 20 feet wide and are visible to fans, players and coaches closest to the playing surface.

In addition to the new centerhung display, a video projection mapping system as well as theatrical lighting were installed last fall for a combined investment of $3.33 million. The projection system provides impressive video image displays on both ice and court surfaces. Additionally, the theatrical lighting design features 60 moving lights that highlight key aspects of a game or event.
